Trowulan, Indonesia
One of the many amazing things about travel is the capacity for a casual comment--or an odd glance--to enlarge the set of possibilities of life. Such is the case, for me, with the rebuilt temple in Trowulan, a small town near Surabaya.
Bricks: so abundant as to be free, and yet I had never before seen sculpture, big or small, done in brick before. And too, nearly a perfect medium for scratching out a figure!
